Fletaro vs Webfleet (TomTom): What Each Offers and Which Fits Your Spanish SME

Honest Webfleet (TomTom) comparison: €25-35/vehicle pricing, 36-month lock-in, no remote door unlock or booking CRM. When Fletaro fits better for Spanish SMEs.
Webfleet in Spain: what it offers, what it costs and what it doesn't include
Webfleet (formerly Webfleet Solutions, part of TomTom since 2007 and Bridgestone since 2019) is a SaaS telematics platform for fleets with strong European presence. Its pitch: real-time GPS with European coverage, driving-hours management for trucks, fuel consumption analytics, digital tachograph compliance, and a driver mobile app. In Spain it operates with its own commercial network and partners; indicative pricing is €25-35/vehicle/month depending on volume and plan, with hardware sold separately (LINK 410 or LINK 740 units at €200-400 each) and installation billed separately.
Fletaro vs Webfleet: feature comparison
Real-time GPS: both, essentially equivalent. Digital tachograph (DDD): Webfleet yes (critical for trucking), Fletaro no. Remote door unlock: Fletaro only (via CAN-CONTROL, 1,300+ models). Remote engine immobilizer: Fletaro only. Booking management: Fletaro only (calendar, availability, dynamic pricing). AI ID verification: Fletaro only. Digital contract signature: Fletaro only. Automatic fine management: Fletaro only. Redsys integration: Fletaro only. OptiDrive driver coaching: Webfleet yes (mature), Fletaro has a more basic driving score. Support language: both in Spanish. Billing currency: both in euros.
The 36-month contract: Webfleet's hidden cost for SMEs
Webfleet typically works with 36-month contracts, with aggressive discount on 60-month deals. For a stable 100+ vehicle fleet this makes sense (you amortize the volume discount in 1-2 years). For an SME with 8-15 vehicles in a fluctuating market (seasonal car rental, e-commerce delivery with uncertain growth, a company renewing fleet every 2-3 years via leasing), the 3-year contract becomes a burden: if you reduce fleet by half, you keep paying for the contracted vehicles; if you want to switch platforms after 18 months, you pay the minimum fee for the remaining 18.
Remote unlock and booking management: what Webfleet does not cover
Webfleet is a pure telematics product. Its business model assumes each vehicle has a regular driver with keys and that the manager monitors. It's not designed for the business end-customer (a car rental customer, a temporary corporate carsharing driver) to access the vehicle autonomously. This rules out the unattended operation model: if you want a customer to pick up a car at 22:00 without anyone in the office, Webfleet doesn't enable it.
When Webfleet makes sense and when Fletaro does
Webfleet makes sense if: your fleet has more than 100 professional vehicles (trucks, large vans); your core business is transport with digital tachograph and driver coaching; you need TomTom navigation integration and real-time traffic; you have an internal team capable of managing advanced telematics and API integrations; and you accept a 36-60 month contract with volume discounts.
