Remote tachograph download with the Teltonika FMC650

The FMC650 is Teltonika’s device for lorries that connects to the digital tachograph. With Fletaro it downloads the driver card and the vehicle memory without the lorry passing through the office, and keeps the signed files somewhere they cannot be deleted.

Transport Tachograph: €13.90/lorry/month + VAT. Setup and installation by a technician: €249 per vehicle, one-off. 12-month minimum term.

Installed by a technician · The device is yours once the setup fee is paid · Files kept 400 days

What the Teltonika FMC650 is and why it is used in lorries

The FMC650 is a Teltonika GPS tracker designed for heavy vehicles. Besides the position, it reads the data that the lorry and the tachograph publish on the CAN bus, and that connection is what makes it possible to ask the tachograph for its files remotely. At Fletaro we install it in lorries, tractor units and buses; on some vehicles, depending on the lorry and the tachograph, the technician may propose the FMC130.

Remote download needs three pieces: the device wired to the tachograph, the company card in a reader connected to the internet and a server that coordinates the request. At Fletaro, the download server is Teltonika’s TachoSync service, from the same manufacturer as the device. We receive the files, store them and warn you of the deadlines.

How remote download works with the FMC650

When a download is due, the server asks the tachograph to authenticate. The company card does not travel in the lorry: it sits in a reader in your office or in the cloud (card hotel: a reader that we manage), and responds remotely. Once authentication succeeds, the tachograph hands over the file with its digital signature and the FMC650 sends it over the mobile network. The result is the same .ddd that you would get with a download key in the yard, valid in an inspection.

By default, the driver card is downloaded every day it is inserted in a connected tachograph, and the vehicle memory every week. That is much more often than the regulation requires (28 days for the card and 90 days for the memory, under Regulation (EU) 581/2010), so a day without coverage does not leave you out of time.

What you need before installing it

A digital or smart tachograph that supports remote download, with the company lock done with your card. A valid company card, always connected to a reader with internet, in your office or in the cloud. And mobile coverage at some point in the day, because the download is retried when the lorry has it again.

Before sending the technician we go through the manufacturer, model and version of each tachograph with you. Not all older digital ones support remote download, and it is better to know before installing.

What remote download with the FMC650 includes at Fletaro

All on the same dashboard as the lorry’s GPS.

Card every day, memory every week

Automatic downloads at a frequency well below the legal deadlines of 28 and 90 days.

400-day custody

Files are stored encrypted and impossible to delete or modify during the period, which by default is 400 days.

Each lorry and each card has its last download date and an alert before the deadline expires.

Failed download alert

If three downloads in a row fail we warn you so you can check the device, the reader or the card.

Files for your software

Download the .ddd files from the web or by API and take them to the analysis software your company already uses.

Lorry GPS

Position, trips and alerts for the lorry on the same dashboard, with the driver identified by their card.

Price of remote tachograph download

Public price per lorry, no tailored quotes needed to start.

The Transport Tachograph plan costs €13.90 per lorry and month plus VAT. It includes remote download of the card and the memory, custody of the files, deadline alerts and the lorry’s GPS. If you only want location, the Transport GPS plan costs €10 per lorry and month, VAT included (€8.26 + VAT), with a €120 setup fee.

Setup and installation is a one-off payment of €249 per vehicle, plus VAT: the device connected to the tachograph, the SIM, the technician and the activation of the download. The device is yours once the setup fee is paid. The minimum term is 12 months. If you prefer not to have a reader in the office, the company card in the cloud costs €6 a month.

What remote download does not do for you

The obligation to download and keep the data remains with the company. Remote download makes it easier, but if a lorry sleeps without coverage or the office reader is switched off, someone has to look into it. That is why the dashboard shows what is missing and warns you before the deadline expires.

Fletaro does not replace your tachograph analysis software either. It hands you the signed files and, if you ask, flags possible driving and rest time infringements for you to review.
